to Megaman
Once upon a time, there was a little company struggling to stay on top of the video game industry. Putting out title after title just didn't cut it during the highly competitive market of the 80's. What they needed was a game that would capture the minds and hearts of Americans Nationwide. They has a chance, too. After all, the system that they were making it for is the system that one out of every two households in the U.S. would have within. After all the programming, debugging, testing, more debugging, and preparation, the game was ready for release in Japan. To everyones' surprise, the game went extremely well and sold out of every store before they could get enough copies in. Article after article raved about this new game and the starring character. After about 6 months, the company had enough money to ship it overseas to the United States and then to the rest of the world. The system: Nintendo; The Company: Capcom; and the game: RockMan, which America would learn to know as MegaMan. After about a year, Capcom had just about doubled their earnings from this title alone. Even today, the original MegaMan is still making Capcom more than enough money.
A year or so later, Capcom released RockMan 2 in Japan and then in the United States which would make them close to the same amount of cash that rolled in from the first. They went from 3, to 4, all the way up to 6 for Nintendo. They continued the saga with MegaMan 7 for the Super Nintendo after releasing MegaMan X. MegaMan 7 came out at around the same time as MegaMan X2, but with a different feel to it, a more animated playability. But now, it's 1997 and guess who turns 10? You guessed it, our friend, Capcom's gold mine: MegaMan. Yup, he's been battling the evil Dr. for a whole decade now and he's still going strong. Also, he's made it across 3 different technologies: the 8-bit, 16-bit, and the 32-bit. Who knows if this little blue robot will make it to the Nintendo 64 in the near future. Maybe even this time in 3-D, although it would be quite a shock. I mean, Myamoto did a hell of a job with the latest installment of the Super Mario Series, but who knows how MegaMan 64 would turn out. 20
About a month ago, the newest edition to the MegaLibrary was released for the Sony Playstation and Sega Saturn. MegaMan 8 seems to be a suiting name for it (considering that it came out after 7). All the characters are there, you know, those other little robots that you just plowed though in the other MegaMan's. Except this time, they're back with more colors and a higher framerate. it's a bit harder than let's say, MegaMan 2, but it's a welcome challenge. This isn't a review of the game, so there's really no need to go on anymore about the game, but I just thought that it was necessary to pay some respect to one of the greatest video game mascots of all time.
